When Don McIntyre started the Advertising Club of Edmonton in 1977, he had a vision.

He wanted our industry to gain integrity while giving back to our community.

His vision for the club was much more than a social function; he envisioned a club in which learning and education were important in a formal and informal sense. Along with his wife Beth, Don held the first meeting of the club in their living room.

Back then, the membership included anyone involved in advertising, marketing and public relations; anyone from company presidents to receptionists. The club has grown incredibly since those first days in the late seventies.

As the industry has changed over the past 30+ years, so has the Club evolved to meet the needs of our members, but the spirit and vision are as alive today as it was in 1977 when the club was formed.

We’re one of the oldest clubs in Canada with a membership of over 250.

Our members span all facets of advertising, marketing and media, including student members from Grant MacEwan, NAIT and the University of Alberta. We support our student members by having ongoing scholarships at each school. In fact, Don and Beth have both been memorialized by scholarships in their names at two of these schools. Students wanting to live and breathe advertising continue to benefit from Don’s vision so many years ago.

Community Involvement

Over the years, the Ad Club has been involved with Santa’s Anonymous, Junior Achievement, telethons, YESS, Edmonton’s Food Bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters, NABS, and the Edmonton Humane Society just to name a few.
