ACE AWARDS CELEBRATE EDMONTON ADVERTISING EXCELLENCE News Share this: The Advertising Club of Edmonton (ACE) hosted the 33rd Annual ACE Awards at Edmonton Event Centre on March 24, 2012. The awards honoured the best locally-produced advertising work, from brochure design to radio advertising, video production to best use of social media, and everything in between. A sold out crowd of over 450 people celebrated advertising creative excellence, with 23 ACEAwards awarded to agencies for outstanding achievement in their category. An additional 41 Awards of Distinction were presented for work demonstrating high-merit. The Best in Show award went to Incite Marketing for a video piece titled ‘Warner Hockey School,’ done on behalf of the Rural Alberta Development Fund. “Edmonton’s ad industry continues to produce outstanding work,” explains ACE President, Ryan Kelly, Creative Director at RED The Agency. “While the advertising landscape continues to change, the need for insightful, engaging and creative work remains. This year we saw new and exciting ways of connecting with target audiences and creative that could go on to win awards around the world.” The judging for the ACE Awards took place in February, when five judges considered 379 entries in 44 categories over two days. This year’s judges were Rob Sweetman, Executive Creative Director, Dare (Vancouver), Carson Ting, Senior Art Director, Blast Radius (Vancouver), Sam Cerullo, Group Creative Director, Leo Burnett (Toronto), Dré Labre, Creative Director, Rethink (Toronto), and Gaëtan Namouric, Chief Creative Officer, Bleublancrouge (Montreal). Hans Dys, owner of FILMBratz Productions was presented with the Fellowship Award, honouring him for his commitment to ACE, the advertising industry, as well as his community involvement. Douglas Woolgar, the show’s producer for the past 18 years was awarded a special Legacy Award. In addition, Madyson Smith and Tyler Van Brabant were the winners of the ACE Student Award category.
